SEAGA, the Southeast Asian Geographers Association, established in 1990, is a regional association of geographers and other academic, education, government, and private sector professionals in related fields like history, the geo- and environmental sciences, and urban planning. The 2012 conference will be the 11th conference that has been organized by SEAGA.
Conference Theme
The conference theme is: “Whose Geography? Space, place and cultures of Asia” and we are inviting multidimensional perspectives on this issue from scholars, policy makers, entrepreneurs, and teachers. The aim of the conference is to advance the discourse on the issues of space, place and cultures in Asia, so as to inform the decision-making and actions of society, private enterprise, and governments. This theme was chosen based on the recommendation of the delegation to the previous SEAGA conference in Hanoi as they felt that there was a need for the community to address these geographical issues from multiple perspectives.
At present a good 80 papers and workshops have been submitted and the review process is on-going. The papers fall into the following themes:

Keynote Speakers
Emeritus Professor Ian Douglas is a distinguished geomorphologist who has 45 years of research experience relating to changes to the hydrologic and geomorphic systems in tropical rain forests and to the biophysical changes in the urban environment.
Professor Eric Bird is the Principal Fellow, Department of Geography, University of Melbourne, Australia. Prof Bird is a coastal geography scholar whose seminal texts include Coastal Geomorphology and Coasts.
Professor Jonathan Rigg is an eminent scholar on Southeast Asia and a featured keynote speaker at SEAGA's meetings whose keynote address will be on the development experience of Southeast Asia.
Professor Philip Hirsch is a renowned scholar on natural resources, environmental change, rural change and the Mekong region, and he is no stranger to regular participants of SEAGA conferences.
Professor John Lidstone is a prominent geography educator and influential scholar, as well as editor for International Research in Geographical and Environmental Education - THE journal for geographical education.
Professor Sarah Bednarz is a celebrated geography Educator and illustrious scholar on spatial thinking and geosciences. Active member of the IGU-CGE and a key contributor of Geography for Life – Standards for Geography in the USA.
