The Fifth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction is scheduled to be hosted from 22 to 25 October 2012 at Jogjakarta Expo Centre (JEC) at Jalan Raya Janti in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Pre-conference events are organized on Monday 22 October 2012, by the conference partners.
The theme of the conference “Strengthening Local Capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction, will place specific focus on Integrating local level disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into national development planning; Local risk assessment and financing; and Strengthening local risk governance and partnership.
The ‘bi-annual’ Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction provides a unique opportunity where Governments, local governments and stakeholder groups can reaffirm their commitment towards the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action by exchanging valuable experiences and successful practices.
We take this opportunity to invite you to participate in the conference and benefit from your experience and expertise. Specifically, Mayors and Local Government Leaders are invited to:
1. A Pre-conference Meeting of Mayors and Local Government Leaders at 8.30 – 12.30 on Monday, 22nd October at Jalan Raya Janti. The meeting objective is seek inputs from Mayors and Local Government Leaders for the preparation of the Post 2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (Post HFA)
2. A discussion at the pre-conference meeting and also throughout the conference, as required, the Statement of Mayors and Local Government Leaders to the 5th AMCDRR.
Please find enclosed 1) the draft Statement of Mayors and Local Government Leaders, which was prepared based on a survey of local governments and a discussion of 50 Mayors and local government representatives at a meeting on 10th July 2012 in Surabaya, Indonesia; and 2) the concept note of the Pre-conference meeting of Mayors and Local Government Leaders.
