JGSEE-CEE, in collaboration with its consortium partners* and Kyoto University, is pleased to announce the organisation of the 5th International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environment or “SEE 2014” on the theme of “Science, Technology and Innovation for ASEAN Green Growth”, during 19-21 November 2014, Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, Bangkok, Thailand.
Since the first of its series of biennial conferences that started a decade ago, the “SEE” Conference has focused on advances in science and technology that addresses energy security, environmental impacts and climate change issues. The SEE 2014 will continue to adhere to this over-arching theme with a focus on sustainable development in ASEAN, as a prelude to the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. Indeed, with a combined population of nearly 600 million and rapidly growing economies in ASEAN – a region very vulnerable to climate change impacts, ensuring energy security and equitable access to modern and clean energy services, while protecting the environment and mitigating climate change has to be on top of the energy and environmental policy agenda in the member economies and the region’s development partners. It is also recognized that science, technology and innovation will underpin green growth into the future for the region.
SEE 2014 will therefore serve as a forum for the exchange of information, knowledge and experiences, and networking opportunities in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency, low carbon technologies, energy systems and policy, climate science and policy, climate financing and low carbon society promotion. Potential contributors from academia, research organizations, government agencies and international institutions, and private sector practitioners are invited to submit papers in the areas of science, technology and policy, for oral and poster presentations at the conference.
Prior to the conference, a JST-JICA supported SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development Program) workshop on “Innovation for sustainable society - How new energy can innovate our economy and life?” will be held on 18 November 2014. Also, a number of side events will be held as part of the conference, including the 12th Sustainable Energy and Environment Forum (SEE Forum) meeting. A technical tour will also be offered on 22 November 2014.
