“Application of Low Carbon Technology for Sustainable Development in emerging countries”
Background: The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, Kansai Research Centre (IGES/KRC) has been carrying out a co-research project since May 2010, with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in India entitled “Research Partnership for Application of Low Carbon Technology for Sustainable Development” (ALCT). This resarch project aims to accelerate the application of Japanese low-carbon technologies to small and medium enterprises in India that will contribute to an international framework on climate change. The ALCT project has made significant achievement over the last three years with technical assistance by experts from Japanese industries, ranging from policy analysis, to technology needs assessment from supply and demand sides and pilot projects, to install advanced heat pumps for energy intensive manufactures.
Objective: The Hyogo Symposium is co-organised by IGES/KRC and Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), who are sponsoring this symposium. The symposium aims to share the knowledge resulting from the ALCT project with various stakeholders from Hyogo prefecture, and to discuss opportunities for disseminating low-carbon technology to developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region by enhancing foreign investment.
