Research Center for Climate Change Adaptation (RCCCA), Keio University, as the Northeast Asian sub regional node for APAN, will orgainse the Northeast Asian annual sub regional conference as part of the Keio University Symposium on “Embracing Change: Building Resilience with Communities" on 15 -16 January 2014 at the Keio University, Hiyoshi Campus, Yokohama Japan.
The aim is to bring together the actors and pioneers carrying out concrete projects directed at building resiliency around the world and to uncover common tools and threads across disciplines and inspire new ideas in the face of change.
This two-day symposium, as the fourth one in the series organized by Keio University’s Environmental Innovators Program, brings researchers, professionals, community leaders and social entrepreneurs together in areas of understanding vulnerabilities, assessing damages, designing and practicing transformative change in emergent issues like renewable energies, post-disaster reconstruction and revitalization, and architectural design and planning in built environment. Speakers will bring concrete and innovative projects to the tables as the basis for deep discussions across disciplines about key issues for the development of more resilient and sustainable communities.
Insight are expected to answer the questions:
Can adaptation be addressed through resiliency building, or must our actions always be reactionary?
How can we scale the solutions developed at the local scale in order to have an impact regionally, nationally, or globally, and vice versa?.
How can scientific knowledge be transformed or applied in the built world in an active way?
